Chhattisgarh Villagers Protest Against Hundreds Lining Up to Buy Liquor

Video Volunteers community correspondent Bhan Sahu reports about a potential Coronavirus infection threat lurking on the village of Anda in Chhattisgarh.

Hundreds of men from nearby cities of Durg and Bhilai, and from nearby villages line up at a liquor shop in Anda, Chhattisgarh to purchase wine. This, at a time when the area has reported a few cases of COVID-19 positive patients. No social distancing is maintained at this liquor shop and hundreds of men keep lining up through the day, thereby increasing the risk of catching a Coronavirus infection. The police administration has failed to enforce social distancing amongst the gathering crowd.

Some local women also report that their husbands subject them to domestic violence and snatch their wages to buy liquor.

Local activists have protested against the functioning of the wine shop and have demanded that it be shut immediately. They have also submitted an application to the local district magistrate.

Video Volunteers appeals that the phone number provided at the end of the video be called upon and pressure should be created to take immediate action.
